Matthew 10 Pt. 4 – Jesus, All For Jesus!
To encourage His Twelve Apostles, and likewise ourselves, Jesus told them that God has everything under control. That we should not fear those that can hurt or kill our body, but after that can do no more, since they can’t get at your soul. Rather we should have a fear of God who can destroy both body and soul in hell (See Matt.10:27-31; 2 Thess.1:9; 2 Thess. 2:8; Phil.3:19). The same God who can do that though, has a loving concern for His own, and the very hairs of our head are numbered and we are more valuable to Him than many sparrows.
But it is important that we publicly confess our allegiance to Jesus Christ. Jesus said that if we would confess Him before men, He would confess us or acknowledge us before God the Father. But if we deny Him before men, He would deny us before the Father (See Matt.10:32-33; 7:21-23; Rom.10:8-13; 1 Tim.6:12).
Some people will be surprized to discover that Jesus’ ultimate goal was not to bring about “World Peace“(See Matt.10:34-39). For sure, Jesus does make peace between God and Sinners (See 2 Cor.5:16-21; Eph.2:14-17), but our having peace with God might cause our very family members to go to war against us.
The good news is that some people will receive us and the message we bring. And Jesus said that if they receive you they are receiving Him, and not only that, but if someone receives Jesus, they are also receiving the one who sent Him, which is The Father (See Matt.10:40-42). So we should not be discouraged if people reject us and the message we bring either. There are dangers involved in being an ambassador for Christ, but there are also rewards. Let us be encouraged to serve the Lord no matter what.
