Matthew 10 Pt.2 – Exclusively For Israel!

It is very important to read verses in their context. If we don’t, we can come to the wrong conclusions. For instance, in  the verses we looked at in this sermon, Matt.10:5-10, you could conclude that Jesus and His Gospel is not for Samaritans and Gentiles, but only for the lost sheep of the tribes of Israel. But this was a specific short-term missions tripin which Jesus sent the twelve into Jewish homes, villages, towns and cities. They could expect good hospitality from their Jewish neighbours.

But the crunch is that if these Jewish homes, towns, and cities rejected the messengers of Jesus, they would be held accountable. In fact Jesus made a shocking statement in v.15 where He said that it would be more tolerable for the lands of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgement, than for those Jewish places. After all, what witness did Sodom and Gomorrah have? ‘Sodom Had No Bible‘, and judgement fell upon them. These Jewish people had The Scriptures, the Preaching of The Apostles, and The Signs and Wonders that would accompany their ministry. So, if after all that, those people refused to take heed to the Gospel, then it would make sense that they would be held accountable to God and would receive a more severe judgement.

In our day though, we have homes that all have at least one Bible. People have received the witness of the Gospel, and are really without any excuse.
