Matthew 26 Pt.7 Falling Away and Denying Christ!

When Jesus and His disciples had finished their Passover Meal, in which Jesus gave new meaning to the bread and the wine, telling the disciples that what they were partaking in was The New Covenant, they then sang a hymn. This may well mean that none of them partook of the 4th of the 4 cups that a part of the traditional Passover meal. But that makes sense, if as we read in The Lion Handbook to the Bible, that last cup was accompanied by a prayer for God’s wrath to be poured out on the nations that despise Him.

After they sang what was likely the great hallel (Psalm 136), which stresses The Mercy of the Lord that endures forever, they all went out to the slopes of the Mount of Olives.

There Jesus told His disciples what would unfold that very night – which was that they ALL would FALL AWAY because of Him Of course they all protested saying that they wouldn’t. Most of the attention is given to Peter, who thought he was made of better stuff than the rest of the disciples and though all of them may well fall away, he would not! But of course Jesus not only knew better, but also knew that this falling away would not be permanent.

This given us great encouragement, because each of us stumble and some fall away for a time. But the Good News is that the Lord is always interceding for Christians and can insure that we don’t fall away permanently!

The audio quality for the musical part of the service was too poor to use, but the rest of it is fine. To watch the full video, or what there is of it, just click on this link!
